My Yoga Journey

If you’ve been following my Instagram, you may have seen that I often post about yoga and doing a 30 Day Yoga Journey with “Yoga With Adriene” on YouTube…

How My Yoga Journey has Affected Me

I’ve been doing Yoga almost every day since going on the road in August of 2023. It’s to the point now where I can’t NOT do it. I’ve dabbled in yoga many times in my life, but I’ve honestly been too impatient for it. I’ve always loved weight training and running, and spin classes, and often rushed through yoga classes and skipped shavasana and the meditation portion to quickly move onto whatever else my day had for me. NEVER AGAIN!

It’s been so amazing to feel my mobility and flexibility improve during my yoga journey. To witness the changes in myself inside and out. It has improved my mental health vastly, my patience, and my inner peace. The last few years I’ve honestly been running on autopilot and I didn’t even know it. It took a long time for me to be able to “turn everything off”, but I’m glad I’ve finally gotten to the point where I can.

I will be forever grateful for this time to do this work (and for beautiful and peaceful settings to do so).

I’m not perfect. I can’t hold every pose. I am always working on my balance, and strength. My body doesn’t bend like some younger, slimmer yogis who’ve been practicing for years and years. I’m humbled every day watching what some of them can do, but it helps me set goals! I’m excited to keep at my yoga journey, and keep learning, growing and seeing changes in myself and my practice.

How You Can Begin Your Own Yoga Journey

Yoga with Adriene on YouTube is a great FREE way to learn if you’re a beginner. The best way to start is to join one of her 30 Day Yoga Journeys (I like this one: “Move“). I did the January 2024 one called “Flow” to start off the new year fresh, but there are many others in her library that I’ve done before. Actually signing up for one in real-time helps keep you accountable. She emails you the class every day, and it’s a nice little reminder to get it done.

Doing one of these Yoga Journeys (and sticking to it) is a great way to build confidence, and get you more comfortable to join in real-life yoga classes one day, if you haven’t yet. Now that I’ve been practicing for a while, I do like to change it up and find more challenging classes as well, but I will always go back to her’s. I find her voice, her language, her aesthetic, and her delivery to be the best and is oh-so comforting to me. I am so thankful that these accounts exist for people like me gain confidence in our practice, and to make yoga accessible and affordable to everyone.
